Spin Vinyl SPINVINYL

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 2025  ·  Last updated: June 2025

Spin Vinyl ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding it. By using Spin Vinyl at spinvinyl.co, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (stored as a secure hash — we never see your plaintext password). You may optionally provide a username, preferred name, city, country, and birthdate.

Collection data: We store the vinyl records you add to your collection and wishlist, including artist, album title, year, label, genre, cover art, and any ratings or notes you provide.

Profile information: Information you voluntarily add to your profile — favorite genres, artists, albums, turntable setup, and record shop preferences.

Usage data: We collect standard web server logs including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This is used for security monitoring and debugging.

Images: If you use the AI cover identification feature, the photo you take is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. We do not store these images beyond the duration of the identification request.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and improve the Spin Vinyl service
  • To authenticate you and protect your account
  • To generate personalised features — Collection DNA, Taste Profile, Trophies, and Suggestions — based on your collection data
  • To enable optional public sharing of your collection, wishlist, and trophies when you choose to make them public
  • To respond to support requests sent to our contact email
  • To send transactional emails (password reset, email confirmation) — we do not send marketing emails

3. Third-Party Services

Spin Vinyl integrates with several third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Your account data and collection are stored on Supabase servers. Supabase Privacy Policy
  • Anthropic — used for AI-powered album cover identification. When you use the "Identify Cover" feature, the image is sent to Anthropic's API. Images are not retained by Anthropic beyond processing. Anthropic Privacy Policy
  • Spotify — if you connect your Spotify account, we receive an access token to display your Now Playing status. We do not store your Spotify credentials. Spotify Privacy Policy
  • Discogs — used to look up album information by barcode and to import your collection. Discogs lookups are anonymous; no personal data is shared. Discogs Privacy Policy
  • MusicBrainz — used as a fallback for album metadata lookups. No personal data is shared. MusicBrainz Privacy Policy

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers. Your data is shared only with the third-party services listed above, which are necessary to operate Spin Vinyl.

If you make your collection, wishlist, or trophies public via the Privacy & Sharing settings, that content becomes accessible to anyone with the link. You can make your profile private again at any time.

We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of Spin Vinyl or its users.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Supabase, which uses industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. We use row-level security policies to ensure users can only access their own data.

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plaintext. We do not have access to your password.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

Spin Vinyl uses browser localStorage to store your session state, UI preferences (such as dismissed banners), and PWA installation preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Supabase sets a session cookie to keep you logged in. This is a strictly necessary cookie required for the service to function.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate data via your Profile and Settings pages
  • Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data via Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your collection, wishlist, profile, and account credentials
  • Export: Export your collection as a CSV via My Collection → Export
  • Portability: Your collection data is exportable in CSV format at any time
  • Objection: You may object to certain processing by contacting us

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@spinvinyl.co. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

Spin Vinyl is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. International Users

Spin Vinyl is operated from the United States. If you access the service from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, your data is transferred to and processed in the US. By using Spin Vinyl, you consent to this transfer.

Users in the EEA and UK have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will post a notice within the app. Continued use of Spin Vinyl after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
